Darlene D. Lindley, 94, of Rock Island, died Saturday, March 4, 2017 at her home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 am Wednesday at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island. Burial is at St. John's Cemetery, Viola. Visitation is 4:30 to 7 pm Tuesday at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island, where a rosary will be recited at 4 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Friendship Manor, Rock Island.
Darlene Adams was born April 12, 1922 at home, in Matherville. She married her high school sweetheart, Charles Kness, who preceded her in death on Sept. 10, 1972. She later married Edmond Lindley, who also preceded her in death.
She had worked as a teletype setter and proofreader at the Rock Island Argus. Darlene later worked at the Rock Island Arsenal, where she was a technical manual writer.
Darlene was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island, Circle One of the Altar and Rosary Society and the church's St. Vincent DePaul Society. She was also a life member of the Allouez Council 658 Knights of Columbus Auxiliary. Darlene served the community in a number of ways including, the St. Vincent DePaul Food Pantry, Friendship Manor Country Store, Trinity Hospital and had helped as a teacher volunteer at Frances Willard School Rock Island. She had also been a 4-H leader for many years and held many offices in the P.T.A. Darlene loved gardening, flowers and especially her prize winning roses. She was also an avid reader and loved to travel.
Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Charlene and Patrick Verschoore, and Alice and Randy Jacobs, all of Milan; grandchildren, Ann Walezyk, Amy Krouse, Michael Krouse, Chuck (Kristy) Verschoore, Nick (Kelly) Jacobs, T.J. (Kristen) Jacobs, and Jeff Jacobs; 11 great-grandchildren; stepdaughter, Carol Jones; and two stepgrandchildren. In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Carolyn Krouse; grandchildren, Julie Verschoore and Russell Krouse; and four brothers and two sisters.
