Darlene was born on February 15, 1935, in Moline, Illinois, the daughter of Lawrence O. and Mamie (Jepson) Jones. She graduated from Rock Island High School in 1953. On February 4, 2011, she married Paul B. Johnson in Florida. She dedicated 25 years to the finance department of the Rock Island School District before retiring.

Darlene had a true zest for life and believed in enjoying every moment. She was a classy, elegant woman who took pride in her appearance and loved looking her best. Whether she was getting her hair done, shopping for something new, or getting dressed up for an outing, Darlene always enjoyed the finer little things in life.

She was a social butterfly who loved being surrounded by family and friends. Darlene was always up for a good time, whether it was a friendly game of cards, a round of golf, an afternoon of shopping, an evening of dancing, or simply sharing laughter, conversation, and a cocktail with good company. She knew how to enjoy life and treasured the friendships she made along the way.

Darlene especially loved her time spent in Florida, where she enjoyed the beautiful weather, golfing, socializing, and making wonderful memories with her many dear friends. She cherished those friendships and the countless good times they shared.

When she wasn’t out enjoying life, Darlene could often be found crocheting, sewing, playing cards, or relaxing with one of her favorite Westerns. She was a loyal Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears fan and loved cheering on her teams.

Darlene was also known for her wonderful cooking and the special treats her family looked forward to year after year. Her Christmas fudge, pumpkin bread, and green bean casserole were family favorites that will always bring back fond memories of time spent together.

As much as Darlene loved life, nothing meant more to her than her family. Being a mother and grandmother brought her tremendous happiness and pride. She treasured family gatherings, holidays, celebrations, and the simple moments spent together. Her family was her greatest joy, and the love she had for them was immeasurable.

Darlene had a special way of embracing life. She enjoyed getting out, being around people, sharing a laugh, and making memories. She understood that life was meant to be lived, friendships were meant to be treasured, and family was meant to be loved with all your heart.
