Darlene M. Schafer, 90, of Rock Island, passed away Wednesday January 14, 2015 at UPH-Trinity, Rock Island.

Visitation will be from 4:00-6:00pm on Sunday, January 18, 2015 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island. Private graveside services will be held at Rock Island Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be left to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Rock Island.

Darlene was born on November 4, 1924 in Kewanee, Il, the daughter of Leo and Emma (Soetaert) DeConinck. She married Eugene Schafer on October 23, 1944 in Kewanee. He preceded her in death on October 27, 2013.

Mrs. Schafer had been a administrative assistant for 19 years at the former Franciscan Hospital. She retired from the hospital in 1988.

She had been a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Rock Island. Darlene loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Survivors include her sons and daughters in law, Steven(Debby) Schafer, Moline, Timothy (Devetta) Schafer, San Antonio, TX, Thomas (Maria) Schafer, Avon, IN; grandchildren, Angela, Haley, Zachary, Bradley, Alec, Elena, Paul; great grandchildren, Kysa and Izabella. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Madeline Wilson; brothers, Gustaaf and Albert DeConinck.
