Funeral services will be 9 am Saturday, November 20, 2021 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 201 E. 4th Avenue, Milan. Darrell was born on December 28, 1969 in Joliet, Illinois, a son of Alphonso Sr. and Dorothy G. Blakney Dickerson. He worked for Watts County Waste Management Services in Rock Island.
Darrell attended Greater Antioch Baptist Church and Second Baptist Church, both of Rock Island. He accepted Christ as his Savior at a young age. You could find him at church singing along with the choir and snapping his fingers while others clapped. He enjoyed going to the drag strip, car shows, spending time with family & friends, making others laugh, encouraging others with disabilities, & eating pizza. He also enjoyed dancing, fishing, working on cars, listening to the Blues & singing Karaoke. Darrell defied the odds he faced due to his disabilities & always stayed positive. After his train accident on November 28, 2002 Darrell bounced back & named himself the Prosthetic Pimp & most recently the Handicap Hustler. His positive attitude & contagious behaviors will most certainly be missed, cherished & never forgotten! In the famous words of Darrell, "It's Prosthetic Baby, Ain't no maybe!"
Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Ashley (Kenneth) Moore, Joliet, Ill., Tiana Babers, Brooklyn Center, Minn., Darrell Phillips, Daquan Dickerson and Demarco Dickerson, all of Milan, Ill.; parents, Alphonso Sr. and Dorothy Dickerson, Rock Island; grandchildren, Jashaun, Maliyah, Darriyah, Laniya, Kenneth, DaKobe, Zharia, AmiaRose and KayMari; and siblings, Bonnie (Mike) Jacobs, Rock Island, Lorraine Young, Rock Island, Yolanda Stokes, Davenport, Alphonso (Penetha) Dickerson Jr., Rock Island, Melvin (Ann) Dickerson Sr., Milan, Willis Dickerson Sr., Moline and Larry Dickerson Sr., San Diego, Calif. He also leaves to cherish his memory a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins & children that he called his stepchildren.
