David P. Edwards, 75, of Rock Island, formerly of Milan, died on Wednesday, August 16th, 2017 at his home. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home , 201 E 4th Avenue, Milan, commencing with a Rosary service at 2 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am Monday at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Rock Island. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island. Memorials may be made in David's name to St. Ambrose Catholic Church, St. Pius X Catholic Church, or St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
David P. Edwards was born February 8, 1942 in Rock Island, the son of Harold P. and Virginia L. (Traut) Edwards. David married Peggy Krahl on September 17th, 1966 at St. Pius Catholic Church in Rock island. They enjoyed over 50 years of marriage prior to his death.
Dave was a 1960 graduate of Rock Island Alleman Catholic High School, and attended St. Ambrose and Blackhawk Community Colleges. He was a member of the Illinois National Guard for 11 years as a Captain Battery Commander for Battery A, Second Battalion, 123rd Artillery Regimen. He was employed by Alcoa Aluminum Company in Riverdale, Iowa for 37 years until his retirement in September of 1996. He was a devout Catholic and a faithful member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church, where he served as a eucharistic minister, served on the Legion of Mary, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He also attended St. Pius X Catholic Church upon moving to Rock Island.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy, of Rock Island; His 7 children, Matt(Chris) Edwards of Andalusia, Amy Rodgers of Rock Island, Joe (Anola) Edwards of Hoffman Estates, Drew Edwards of Cayuga, Indiana, Paul Edwards of Milan, Alan (Shawna)Edwards of Milan, and Brianna O'Hern of Midland, Georgia; 4 siblings, Kathleen "Cookie" Peterson of Moline, Michael (Celeste)Edwards of Milan, Mark (Sue) Edwards of Phoenix, Arizona, and Margaret "Peggy" Johnson of Phoenix, Arizona; and his 12 grandchildren, Austin, Hannah, Chase, Dane, Isaiah, Maddi, Allie, Owen, Charlie, Parker, Michael, and Henry.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
