David Robert McGehee Sr., 65, of Rock Island, passed away Thursday, December 12, 2024, at his home.

Per his wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held at a later date. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island is assisting David's family with arrangements.

David was born December 17, 1958, in Huntsville, Alabama, a son of Howard Eugene and Carolyn Leigh (Spence) McGehee. He attended school in Alabama and moved to the Quad Cities. David met Leslie Scharer, and they spent over 20 years together. David was a truck driver at Eastern Iowa Recyclers for 15 years before retiring.

David enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing and camping. He also loved spending time with his son.

Those left to cherish David's memory include his longtime partner, Leslie Scharer; son, David McGehee Jr.; step-children, Stacey (Aaron) Rios and Jennifer (Greg) Swanson; grandchildren, Dulcie Mercer and Riley McGehee; step-grandchildren, Jayden, Cameron, Addysen, Emily, and Adam; brothers, Mike and Rusty; and several nieces and nephews.

David was preceded in death by his parents.
