David E. Popp, aged 84, of Moline, Illinois, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, May 18, 2025. He was born on July 22, 1940, in Moline, a beloved son of Charles C. and Florence Schowalter Popp.
David's journey through life was marked by love and service. On April 12, 1969, he married Helen Secor, at the 15th Avenue Christian Church in Rock Island.
David dedicated much of his professional life to the United States Postal Service, retiring as a nixie clerk. He also contributed his expertise as a financial advisor with the former Triple Check Tax Service.
In his personal life, David was a lifelong member of the 15th Avenue Christian Church, where he engaged in spiritual growth and community service. He also found joy and fulfillment in mentoring youth as a participant in the Boy Scouts of America. An avid outdoorsman, he cherished fishing and exploring nature. Additionally, David possessed remarkable carpentry skills, enjoying woodworking projects that showcased his creativity and craftsmanship. Above all, he reveled in the company of his family, making cherished memories filled with laughter and love.
David is survived by his devoted wife, Helen Popp of Moline; his children, Robert (Melisa) Popp of Moline and Jennie (Dan) Deibert of Waukesha, Wisconsin; his cherished grandchildren, Sabrinna, Nathaniel, Zachary, and Keon; four great-grandchildren; and his siblings, Dennis C. Popp of Killeen, Texas, and Richard (Diane) Popp of Taylor Ridge, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved daughter, Sheryl Ann Popp, and his brother, Robert Popp.
A funeral service commemorating David's life will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at the 15th Avenue Christian Church, located at 3600 15th Avenue, Rock Island, Illinois. Prior to the service, family and friends are invited to gather for visitation from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at the church. Following the service, cremation rites will be honored, and inurnment will be held privately at a later date. In loving memory of David, the family kindly requests that memorials be directed to the 15th Avenue Christian Church.
