Obituary

David Lee Saelens, 68, of Rock Island, passed away unexpectedly Friday December 26, 2025 at his home.

A service to celebrate David's life will be 11:00 AM Monday January 12, 2026 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM to service time at the funeral home. Inurnment follow in Rock Island National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left to Disabled American Veterans.

David was born on February 22, 1957 in Moline, the son of Alfons and Helen (Phillips) Saelens. He was a graduate of Rock Island High School in 1975 and later graduated from Blackhawk College with a Associates Degree in Music. David was a United States Army Veteran having played in the US Army Band.

David had been a well-known singer and songwriter in the Quad City Area. He had been the lead drummer and vocalist in several local bands including, David Saelens and the Major 7, Lyle Beaver and the Brass Notes, and Barefoot Becky. David was a long standing member of the Musician's Union and loved oil painting.

Survivors include his sister, Mary Saelens, Rock Island and several special friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfons and Helen; and a brother, Steve Saelens.
