David A. Thonn, 87, of Rock Island, died Friday, September 26, 2014 at Friendship Manor, Rock Island. A memorial service will be Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island. Visitation will be Wednesday from 9 - 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island, where military honors will be conducted. Memorials may be made in care of Friendship Manor, 1209 21st Ave., Rock Island, IL 61201.

David was born in Moline on May 28, 1927. He was a U.S. Navy veteran who served during WWII. David married Mary Carol Crawshaw on January 31, 1947 in Rock Island. She preceded him in death on May 9, 1990.

David was owner/operator of Lerch and Thonn Inc., Rock Island, from 1953-1989. He was an avid golfer and fisherman. He was also a member at Oakwood Country Club in Coal Valley.

Survivors include his children (and spouses), William "Bill" (Mary) Thonn, Western Springs, Ill., Dave (Leslie) Thonn, Woodridge, Ill., Jim (Meg) Thonn, Downers Grove, Ill. and Nancy (Mike) Chamberlain, Rockford, Ill.; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Sally (Conrad) Newberry, Pacific Grove, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and brother, Carl.
