Deacon Paul V. Martin, 94, of Rock Island, passed away on Tuesday, May 19, 2026 at home.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, May 22, 2026, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island. Visitation will be held from 4:30 to 6:00 pm on Thursday, May 21, 2026, at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island, with a rosary to be recited at 4:00 pm. Entombment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island. Memorials may be made in care of Alleman Catholic High School or St. Pius X Catholic Church, both of Rock Island.
Paul was born on October 31, 1931, in Rock Island, a son of Thomas and Anne (Johnson) Martin. He married LaVona "Lonny" Morrissette on April 7, 1951 and they enjoyed over 66 wonderful years together before her passing on May 28, 2017.
Paul proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War.
Paul was the co-founder and co-owner of Renewal Service, Inc. He ran the business alongside his wife from 1984 until their retirement in 2000.
Faith and community were the focus of everything Paul did. He served as a Past President on the Board of Directors for Christian Care in Rock Island. Paul was a longtime member of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Rock Island, where he was very involved. He was ordained Permanent Deacon for Peoria Diocese on May 22, 1992. He helped serve communion to residents at River Park Health Care Center for many years. Paul was the Assistant Spiritual Director of Legion of Mary and Spiritual Director of St. Vincent DePaul Society at St Pius. He was a member of Allouez Council #658 Knights of Columbus, Father Edward J. Bader Assembly 4th Degree Knight of Columbus, Board of Directors for the Diocese Charismatic Renewal, and was the Prayer Group Leader for Servants of Christ Prayer Group which he co-founded in 1984.
Survivors include his daughter, Terese Martin, Rock Island; a nephew that he raised, Steven Wykle, Davenport; grandchildren, Brandon Martin and Anthony Martin, both of Rock Island; great-grandson, Desmond Martin; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; son, Thomas Martin; and sisters, Mary Lou Starner, Adrienne O. Nonnenmann and Veronica Farraher.
