Delona J. Kennedy, 85, of Rock Island, passed away on Friday, March 16, 2018 at her home with her family at her side. Services for Mrs. Kennedy will be 10 am, Friday at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island. Visitation will be Thursday from 4 to 7 pm at the funeral home. Burial will be in Rock Island Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association. Delona was born at home on September 13, 1932 in Ladd, Illinois. She was the daughter of Raymond Spellmeyer and Gladys Greathouse Spellmeyer. She married Russell L. Kennedy on September 16, 1950 in Rock Island. He preceded her in death on November 16, 2009. Mrs. Kennedy had worked at the Rock Island Argus and for over 30 years at Kennedy Interiors & Galleries, Rock Island. She was a member of Two Rivers United Methodist Church, Rock Island and had been active in the church choir for over 35 years. She also was in many activities at the church and was President of the United Methodist Women. Delona graduated from Rock Island High School in 1950 and was a founding member of the 50's Club which is still meeting once a month. She enjoyed going on many trips with her children, grandchildren and groups from the church. Survivors include her children, Russell Lee Kennedy, Rock Island, Ron L. (Mary Anne) Kennedy, Clive, Iowa, Jeannette "Jan" McCollum, Milan and Jerry (Lynette) Kennedy, Rock Island; grandchildren, Allyson McCollum, Stacie (Travis) Dean, Sean McCollum, Joel McCollum, Kyle Kennedy and Nicole Kennedy; great grandchildren, Brodi, Mason, Kennadie and a great grandson due in May; brother, Dr. John (Elaine) Spellmeyer, Lac du Flambeau, Wisconsin; stepsister, Betty Jean (Frank) Hamilton, Flint, Michigan; and several nieces and nephews.
