Deltha "Del" B. Bender, 86, of Albuquerque, NM, formerly of Rock Island, passed away Wednesday April 1, 2015 in Albuquerque.
Services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday at Congregation Beth Israel at the Tri-City Jewish Center, Rock Island. Burial will be at Hebrew Cemetery, Rock Island. Memorials may be made to Congregation Beth Israel at the Tri-City Jewish Center, Rock Island or The Michael J. Fox Foundation (Parkinson's Disease). Arrangements are entrusted to Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 3030 - 7th Ave., Rock Island.
Deltha Kerby was born November 6, 1928 in Morning Sun, IA, a daughter of Guy and Ada Mehaffy Kerby. She married Gerald M. Bender on December 31, 1955 in Chicago, IL. He preceded her in death on September 18, 1984. Deltha and Gerald owned and operated Jerry's Place in East Moline for many years and worked at Rio Grande Jewelry Company and Target up to the age of 80.
She was a member of Congregation Beth Israel at the Tri-City Jewish Center, Rock Island. In past years, she was active in Congregation Beth Israel and enjoyed crocheting and listening to accordionist Dick Contino. Deltha will be truly missed by her family.
Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Shari and Dennis Barnett, Albuquerque, NM; son and daughter-in-law, Louis T. and Janet Bender, Moline; grandchildren, Jerrison Barnett, Amanda (Mitch) Bergeson and Joshua (Tera) Bender; great-grandchildren, Grace Bergeson and Nora Bender; sister-in-law, Sharma Spector, Rock Island; step-mother Waunieta Kerby and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the loving and caring staff of Hospice COMPASSUS and Right at Home, especially Mr. Trevor Trent. The attention and care they gave us has been a blessing and truly appreciated by her and her family.
Deltha was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and brother, John Kerby.
