Dennis "Butch" Thompson, 72, of Rock Island, formerly of Reynolds, died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Monday May 12, 2025.

Private graveside services will be held Wednesday May 21, 2025 in Rock Island National Cemetery, with Military Honors presented by Milan American Legion Post No. 569. A Celebration of Life gathering will be held from 1:00-4:00 PM Saturday May 24, 2025 at the Milan American Legion, 515 1st Ave W, Milan, IL 61264.

Dennis was born on December 9, 1952 in Rock Island, the son of Floyd "Tommy" and Lois (Faucett) Thompson. Butch graduated from Rockridge High School in 1969 and entered the United States Army in February of 1970. Butch later married Gail I. Staats on September 1, 1979 in Illinois City.

Mr. Thompson had worked as a truck driver with several trucking companies, lastly driving for Dohrn Trucking Company, Rock Island.

Butch loved spending time with his family, riding his Harley Davidson and was a member of the Milan American Legion.

Survivors include his wife, Gail; daughters, Jennifer (Jeff) Brozovich, Fruitland, Iowa, Christina (Jay) Long, Reynolds, Illinois; sisters, Cindy Ostrom, Rock Island and Marty (Danny) Morrow, Rock Island, Linda Thompson, Annawan, Illinois; six grandchildren; two great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and numerous aunts and uncles.
