Obituary

Dennis “Denny” Whitcomb, 74, of Rock Island, passed away Saturday, May 2, 2026 at home surrounded by his loving family.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at Word of Life Church, Rock Island with visitation one hour prior to service at the church. Burial will be at National Cemetery, Rock Island with military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Word of Life Church or D.A.V.

Denny was born December 9, 1951 in Rock Island, the son of Frederick and Jeanne (Hart) Whitcomb. He married Jean Tempel on October 10, 1973 in Sand Coulee, MT.

Denny was a U.S. Army Veteran. He retired as a machinist from J.I. Case.

Denny was a member of Word of Life Church. He enjoyed fishing, thrifting and selling his treasures on eBay.

Denny loved his family more than anything and made sure they always knew it. Denny was the one who always showed up — for every school function, sporting event, birthday, holiday, and random, spur of the moment cookouts.

He was blessed with a sharp, dry sense of humor and a gift for telling tall tales that kept everyone laughing. A lifelong prankster, Denny was also a perfectionist who took pride in doing things the right way. His warmth, wit, and steady presence made him the heart of his family.

Survivors include his wife, Jean; children, Greg (Margaret Truppa) Whitcomb, Galena, Stacy (Adam Buchholz) Price, Big Rock IA and Sarah (Sean Rushing) Whitcomb, Davenport; grandchildren, Hannah Price, Camryn (Vince) Shaw, Clayton (Chloe Bohnsack) Price, Addison Price, Aiden Rushing and Ezra Rushing; great-grandsons, Ezekiel, Xavier and Elias Shaw and Cash Price-Bohnsack; siblings, Jimmy (Regina)Whitcomb, Rock Island, Jeff (Connie) Whitcomb, Rock Island, Pam Hammond, Rock Island, Roxanne Carns, Blue Grass, Karen (Ken Straman) Whitcomb, Rock Island, Shelley (Rob) Williams, Rock Island and Brenda Whitcomb, Rock Island, and a large extended family who will forever cherish his stories, his laughter, and the way he loved them.
