Donald Edward Ansolom Braid, 85, of Rock Island, died Wednesday, February 25, 2015 in Bettendorf. A Requiem Mass will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity Anglican Church, Rock Island. Visitation will be an hour prior to mass at the church. Inurnment will be at Chippiannock Cemetery, Rock Island. Memorials may be made in care of the M.D.S Foundation.
Donald was born on April 14, 1929 in Chicago, Ill., a son of Frank and Hazel McCabe Braid. He graduated from Steinmetz High School in Chicago, class of 1947. He also attended Northwestern University, Chicago.
Donald married Paula Lohmann in Pekin, Ill. on Jan. 17, 1959. She preceded him in death on Nov. 6, 1992.
Donald held many jobs over the years. His passion, however, was radio. He spent many years as a disc jockey as well as did many radio ads and voices. He also spent a lot of his time acting in Playcrafters Barn Theatre, Moline, as well as Genesius Guild, Rock Island.
Donald was a lifelong member at Trinity Anglican Church. He was a diehard Chicago Cubs fan. In fact, he attended one of the 1945 World Series games, the last time the Cubs were in the series! Donald enjoyed playing golf and the slots at the casinos.
To Donald's grandchildren, he was known as "pappy."
Survivors include, his children, Gregory Braid, Bettendorf and Bridget (Rick) Schisler, Owensboro, Ky.; grandchildren, Ryan, Courtney and Kristin Schisler; and five nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and brother, Kenneth Barton.
