Donald Ray Bulens, 89, of Rock Island, went to be with the Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Monday December 9, 2019 at Hope Creek Care Center, Moline.
A Memorial Service will be 11:00am Monday at Edgewood Baptist Church, Rock Island. Friends are welcome to greet the family one hour prior to service time at church. Inurnment will follow in Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be left to Meals on Wheels.
Donald was born on September 2, 1930 in Moline, the son of Alfred and Emma (Gramenz) Bulens. He was a graduate of Rock Island High School. Donald joined the United States Army after high school and served from 1951 to 1953. He married Betty Parmley on October 21, 1956. She preceded him in 1982. He later married Norma McGuirk on June 11, 1983.
Mr. Bulens had been employed by the United States Post Office as a mail expeditor and distribution clerk, retiring in 1990. Previously he had been employed at Servus Rubber, Rock Island.
Donald was a member for 40 years at Edgewood Baptist Church, Rock Island, where he had served as president of the Beacon Class and in the puppet ministry with Rev. Tim Green. He has also been active with the bowling leagues at Town and Country Bowl, Wells Fargo, Moline and Sammy G Lanes, Milan. Donald was a faithful and loving man who donated his time to Meals on Wheels and was a regular to donate blood with the Mississippi Valley Blood Center. He enjoyed playing chess, cribbage, board games, soduko puzzles, reading and card games.
He is survived by his wife, Norma; son, James "Jim" (Paula) Bulens, East Moline; siblings, Patricia Ann Shannon, Hampton, Lee Bulens, Rock Island; step daughters, Valerie, Robyn, Stacey, Rennie and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty; his parents, Alfred and Emma; sisters, Florence and Marilyn.
