Donald J. Edmonds, 79, of Rock Island, passed away on Saturday, August 8, 2015 at UnityPoint Health-Trinity, Rock Island. Services for Mr. Edmonds will be 11 am, Thursday at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Rock Island National Cemetery, where military honors will be conducted. Memorials may be made to Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center, 200 Hawkins Dr. Iowa City, Iowa 52242 Dr. Mohammed Milhelm.

Don was born on November 9, 1935 in Rock Island, a son of Emerson and Ethel Schumacher Edmonds. He married Bonnie Mewes on January 8, 1968 in Rockford. She preceded him in death on August 30, 1993. Don work at Alcoa, Davenport Works, for 25 years retiring in August 1990. After his retirement Don worked as the sexton at Trinity Anglican Church, Rock Island, for several years. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Rock Island. He enjoyed watching all sporting events and attending his grandchildren's baseball games. Don was a U.S. Army veteran.

Survivors include his children, Debbie (Roy) McDonnell Sr., Brenda Chewning, Julie McElroy, Cheryl (Steve) Reist, Theresa (Mark) Lucas Sr., Tawnya Schroeder, Steve (Mikki) Edmonds, and Kelly (Dean) Behrens; twelve grandchildren; and several great grandchildren; siblings, Jeanne Heater, Lois (Rick) Czupka, and Kathy (Jim) Williams; and a special friend, Hazel Wakeland.

Don was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Bonnie; grandsons, Roy McDonnell Jr., and Nik Edmonds; a brother, Bill Edmonds; and a sister, Pat Bleuer.
