Donald D. Hardesty, 93, Milan, IL passed away on Thursday, May 1, 2025 at his home surrounded by family and under the care of hospice. There will be a visitation from 4-7:00 PM on Thursday, May 8, 2025 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Milan. The funeral service will be at 10:00 AM on Friday, May 9, 2025 at the funeral home. Burial at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Memorials may be made to the Quad City Animal Welfare Center.
Don was born on December 3, 1931 to Sesco and Mabel (Danielson) Hardesty in Milan, IL. He grew up in Moline and graduated from Moline High School. On December 15, 1949 he was united in marriage to RoseMary Mulica. The couple lived in Moline where they raised their two sons. Their first home was a converted school house they both attended as children.
Don had an unmatched work ethic, often having several jobs at one time. After high school, Don worked at Farmall welding gas tanks and also worked digging trees and hauling coal. He then began his career with International Harvester where he worked as a quality control officer for 28 years. After retiring from IH, Don got his real estate license. In addition, he also farmed thousands of acres with his dad.
Don got a private pilot's license and in his spare time enjoyed flying planes. He was also a regular at the casino.
Don is survived by his sons, Donavon (Kristin) Hardesty and Mark (Lori Border Thermos) Hardesty; grandchildren, Lori Rae Hardesty, Anthony (Missi) Hardesty, Christina Jo (Matthew) Hardesty Wiese, Jessica (Anthony) Rush, De'siree' Tate and Angel Martin; 12 great-grandchildren; and 7 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, RoseMary; siblings, Steve Hardesty and Evangeline Johnston.
