Donald E. Hofer, 93, of Aledo, formerly of Taylor Ridge, passed away on Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at Genesis Senior Living, Aledo. Services for Mr. Hofer will be 10:30 am, Friday at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home & Crematory, Reynolds. Visitation will be Thursday from 4 to 8 pm, at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Reynolds Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Reynolds United Methodist Church or to the Reynolds Fire Department.

Donald was born on April 3, 1923 in Taylor Ridge, a son of Everett and Lucy Zeitler Hofer. He married Lucille M. "May" Osborn on May 1, 1943 in Taylor Ridge. She preceded him in death on December 19, 2008. Donald was a lifelong farmer in Taylor Ridge, retiring in 1988. He was a member of the Reynolds United Methodist Church, Andalusia Masonic Lodge No. 516 AF & AM, Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 617, and the Rock Island County Farm Bureau. Donald had served on the Rock Ridge School Board and had served as the Edgington Township Supervisor.

Survivors include his children, Carol (Ron) Parchert, Buffalo Prairie, Donna Hayes, Trenton, Florida, Darrel (Judy) Hofer, Reynolds, Daniel (Janice) Hofer, Reynolds, Ann Marie (Kevin) Keller, Reynolds, Neil (Carolyn) Hofer, Guttenberg, Iowa; 13 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; a sister, Kathrine Osborn, Reynolds; a sister in law, Katie Hofer, Taylor Ridge.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents; wife, May; a granddaughter, Connie Hofer, sons in law, Al Howell and Mike Hayes, brother, Virgil Hofer; sister, Evelyn Burton; brothers in law, Willard Burton and Ben Osborn.
