Donald D. Simpson, 85, of Milan, died Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at UnityPoint Health-Trinity Rock Island. Services will be Sunday at 12:30 pm at the Edgington Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 13228 140th St. W., Taylor Ridge. Visitation will be Saturday from 2-5 pm at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 201 E. 4th Ave., Milan. Burial will be in the Norwood Cemetery, near Alexis, Ill., where military honors will be provided. Memorials may be made in care of Camp Courageous.
Donald was born in Alexis, Ill. on September 3, 1928, a son of Rex and Florence Hennenfent Simpson. Donald was a U.S. Army veteran who served during the Korean War. He married Marilou Birdsley on December 27, 1952 in Wyoming, Ill.
Donald was a former member of Norwood Presbyterian Church where he was an elder. He was currently a member at Edgington Evangelical Presbyterian Church where he was a deacon. He was also a member of the Korean War Veterans Association Quad City Chapter 168, Presbyterian Mariners, past president of Friendship Force International of the Quad Cities and past president of the Rockridge Band Booster Club. Donald spent 20 years as a mission volunteer.
Donald enjoyed wood carving, stained glass, and traveling. He traveled to 6 of 7 continents with Antarctica being his favorite to visit.
Survivors include his wife, Marilou Simpson, Milan; daughters (and spouses), Linda (Syd) DePooter, Milan and Louann (Blaine) Krogman, White River, South Dakota; grandchildren, Linsy DePooter, Hilary (Evan) Nesheim, Haley Krogman and Kirby Krogman; and a great grandson, Nash Nesheim.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Kenneth.
