Donald H. Smeltzer, Sr., 90, of Rock Island, died Saturday, December 2, 2017 at his home.  Cremation rites were accorded.  There will be no services.  Inurnment will be at Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island.

Donald was born in Davenport, Iowa on January 13, 1927, a son of Alvin B. and Edna Maerit Smeltzer, Sr.  He married Barbara J. Lee on November 27, 1947 in Davenport.  She died in 2013.

Donald was a U.S. Navy veteran.  He worked for the East Moline Correctional Facility for 20 years and retired as a Lieutenant correctional officer in 1989.

Donald is survived by his son, Donald H. (Mary Beth Stewart) Smeltzer, Jr.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, 2 brothers and a sister.
