Obituary

Donald A. Wilkens, 82, of Illinois City, passed away on Thursday, March 19, 2015 at his home. Funeral services will be held 11:00am on Wednesday at Zion Lutheran Church, Taylor Ridge. Burial will follow at Zion Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4 to 7 pm at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Milan. Memorials may be made in care of Zion Lutheran Church.

Donald August Wilkens was born on August 10, 1932 in Andalusia, a son of August and Bertha Umlandt Wilkens. Donald served his country in the United States Army and was deployed to the Far East. He worked at John Deere Harvester Works in the maintenance department for 30 years. He married Lois Borrall on September 29, 1984, she survives.

Donald was a dedicated member of Zion Lutheran Church, he greatly enjoyed gardening, fishing and spending time with his large extended family. He was a devoted member of the Andalusia Lions Club, he volunteered his time frequently and was instrumental in several construction and maintenance projects.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife; Lois, children, Mark (Debbie) Wilkens, Illinois City, Scott Wilkens, Milan, Jay (fiancé, Robbin) Wilkens, Moline; step-children, Robert (Donna) Brown, New Mexico, Sue Ellen (Jeff) Jackson, New Mexico, Diana Lynn (Ray) Stropes, Andalusia, Cheryl Ann Brown; siblings, Shirley Miller, Anita McClure, Wayne Wilkens, and William (Marjorie) Wilkens; along with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by 6 sisters, 2 brothers and several sisters and brothers-in-law.
