It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Donald L. Youngblood, 67, of Rock Island, who departed this life on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at UnityPoint Health-Trinity in Rock Island. Donald was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Don was born on July 22, 1958, in Rock Island, Illinois, to the late Ray E. and Esther Harness Youngblood. He married Sandra Youngblood, on November 17, 1978, in Rock Island, and together they built a loving family. A hardworking professional, Don dedicated 34 years of service to the Parr Instrument Company in Moline before retiring on December 11, 2020.
He was a cherished member of his community, attending Heritage Church in Rock Island and actively participating in local sports. Don was an enthusiastic coach, sharing his passion for basketball and soccer with young athletes, while also volunteering with the Rock Island Football Club, Future Rocks Basketball and Royal Ranges at Bethel Church.
In earlier years, he was an avid runner, competing in the Bix 7 several times. Don had a love for life that extended beyond sports; he enjoyed spending time fishing, playing chess, and was known for his extensive Coca-Cola collection.
A funeral service will be held in remembrance of Don on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at 10 am at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, located at 201 E. 4th Avenue in Milan, Illinois. Visitation for friends and family will take place on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, from 4 to 7 pm at the funeral home. Following the service, he will be laid to rest at Preemption Cemetery in Preemption, Illinois.
Don is survived by his beloved wife, Sandy Youngblood; daughters, Sarah Shamblin and Anna Youngblood; grandchildren, Trevor, Zack, and Aubrey Beckman, as well as Chelsea and Avery Shamblin; his brother, Ken (Deb) Youngblood; and sister, Cathy (Mark) Youngblood-Maze.
