Ann was born on April 27, 1942, in Fairbury, Illinois, a daughter of Donald P. and Rose Kathleen (Healy) Bergan. She graduated from the Villa de Chantal in Rock Island before earning her bachelor's degree from Marycrest College in Davenport. On December 23, 1972, Ann married the love of her life, Joseph Charles Versluis. They shared many wonderful years together until his passing.
Ann dedicated her life to education. She began her teaching career in Bloomington, Illinois, and went on to serve the Rock Island-Milan School District 41, where she inspired generations of elementary students during her 33-year career before retiring.
Ann was a devoted member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, where she sang in the choir and belonged to the Altar and Rosary Society. She was also an active member of the Illinois Retired Teachers Association, the Rock Island Music Association, and Friends of the Library.
Ann found great joy in musical theater and was a passionate supporter of the performing arts. She also enjoyed crocheting, playing bingo, and cheering on her beloved Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Above all, she treasured the time she spent with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Those left to cherish Ann’s memory include her children, Kathleen Versluis, Patrick (Tiffany) Versluis, Matthew (Jennifer) Versluis, John (Lisa) Versluis, and Christopher Versluis; grandchildren, Aiden, Brady, Joseph, Ella, Madison, and Grace Versluis; sister, Mary (Jack) Ohtani; brother, Thomas (Teresa) Bergan; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Ann was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, James Bergan; and sister, Angela Schlueter.
