Obituary

Donna M. McWilliams, of Rock Island, IL, passed away May 1, 2020. She was 95. Daughter of the late Theresa and Leslie Miles, she was born March 20, 1925 in Moline, IL. Raised in Moline, she graduated from Moline High School.

On August 11, 1945, she married Leonard V. McWilliams in Rock Island where they took up their residence. She worked as the legal secretary for Stewart Winstein for 43 years.

Donna loved music and always had the radio playing; even taking up the guitar. Her passion for music carried over to dancing. She could be regularly seen gracing the dance floor – and was even known to try her hand at line dancing. If you didn't know Donna for her dancing, you may have known her from her years of bowling in a local bowling league. Or, from her many social gatherings with friends, family and neighbors. Donna was infamous for always sitting in the same front row pew at St. Pius X church which she attended since its founding.

She was a proud matriarch to three generations of grandchildren. She loved spoiling them with her magically re-filling candy dish and loved sharing her joy of reading as she passed on her books to them.

Donna was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Leonard, her daughter Connie Vanderkerchove and son-in-law, Mike Vanderkerchove, her sister Phyllis Fisher, sister Frances Simmons, brother-in-law, Santford Simmons, her brother Jack Miles and sister-in-law Joyce Miles.

She is survived by her sister, Betty Johnson, brother Jim ( Juanita ) Miles, daughter Sandi (Larry) Youngquist, and son Don (Ellie) McWilliams.

She is also survived by her grandchildren, Kim (Zane) Blomgren, Beca Saur, Kevin Saur, Kathi (Greg) Bein, Beth (Joey) Hundley, Amanda (James) Britton, and Erin (Adam) Hass.

She is survived by her great-grandchildren Tessa Beasley, Caitlin Beasley, Carson Beasley, Micah Beasley, Audrey Blomgren, Alex Saur, Evan Denney, Cole Denney, Ethan Saur, Carter Saur, Amber (Brandon) Bedwell, Bradley (Autumn) Bein, Shaun Hundley, Emmie Hundley, Cameron Britton, Noah Britton, Lindsey Britton, Caleb Hass, Noah Hass, and Ashley Hass. Additionally, she is survived by her great, great-grandchildren Evelyn and Hezekiah and numerous nieces and nephews.

Private graveside service will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery, Rock Island with a commemorative celebration later. Memorials may be sent to the American Heart Association in Donna's memory.
