Donna Lee Nelson, 85, of Rock Island, passed away Monday, May 22nd, 2023, at her home surrounded by her children.

Funeral Services will be held at Noon, on May 30th, 2023, at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island. This event will be livestreamed and can be viewed at the following link, www.wheelanpressly.com/live-stream. Visitation will be from 10:00am to the time of services. The burial will be immediately following the services at the Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Kings Harvest Pet Rescue, 2504 W. Central Park, Ave, Davenport, Iowa 52804.

Donna was born on April 24, 1938, in Rock Island to the daughter of Buck and Marie (Broendel) Schroeder. She married James (Jim) Nelson on October 26th, 1957, at Saint Pius X Roman Catholic Church in Rock Island. Donna and Jim owned and operated Gallery Garden & Gifts, Moline until 2000. Donna later went on to own Art-FXGallery and helped run Mid-Coast Fine Arts, Rock Island as well as Bucktown Center for the Arts, Davenport with her brother Dean. She was an avid painter as well as gardener and even went on to win beautification awards from the city of Rock Island for her work in her home garden. She loved animals and was never without a family pet.

Survivors include her daughter, Carol Johnson, Son-in-law Scott Johnson, Sons: Frank Nelson and Ronald Nelson. Grandchildren: Alissa (Johnson) Goodwin [husband: Chris Goodwin], Matthew Nelson, and Michael Nelson. Great-Grandchildren: Austin Johnson, Caleb & Connor Goodwin. Brother Dean Schroeder and nephews Jason and Ian Schroeder. In-laws: Ronald and Carol Browder, Judi Minke, Penny Chiniaeff, and William (Bill) Browder. As well as her dearly beloved cat, Katy.

She is preceded in death by her parents, and husband who had passed away in 2010.
