It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Doris M. Winter, 92, of Rock Island, who departed this life on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at UnityPoint Health – Trinity, Rock Island. A devoted mother, grandmother, and community member, Doris's life was characterized by her compassion, generosity, and unwavering spirit. A funeral service will be held in her honor at 11 AM on Thursday, November 6, 2025, at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, located at 3030 7th Avenue, Rock Island, IL. Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during the visitation, which will take place from 10 AM to 11 AM on the same day at the funeral home. Following the service, Doris will be laid to rest at Chippiannock Cemetery in Rock Island, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Doris's name to Gilda's Club, QC Animal Welfare Center, or St. James Lutheran Church. Doris was born on May 29, 1933, in DeKalb, Illinois, to Lloyd and Ila Kujala Engh. She married Robert D. Winter on March 25, 1956, at First Lutheran Church, Rock Island, who preceded her in death on November 3, 2001. Doris dedicated her early career to serving as a bookkeeper at the Rock Island Arsenal before embracing her cherished role as a homemaker, raising her beloved family and always adored and bragged about all of her grandchildren. An active participant in the life of her church, Doris was a longstanding member of St. James Lutheran Church, where she volunteered her time to assist cancer patients in attending services. She also contributed her efforts to Moline Public Hospital through the Junior Service League, supported Easter Seals and volunteered with her husband, Robert, delivering for Meals on Wheels. In her leisure time, Doris found joy in reading and cross stitching. Doris's memory will be cherished by her children, Steve (Sandi) Winter of East Moline and Sande (Glenn) McAtee of Viola; her grandchildren, Susan Suits, Stephanie (Jason) Clapper, Stacey (Alan Arrington) Winter, Sean (Lysa) Winter, Sara Sniadach, Josh (Kayla) Vyncke, and Jason Vyncke; her great-grandchildren, Austin Suits, AJ Suits, Brianna Clapper, Julia Clapper, Michael Matrafailo, Matthew Matrafailo, Caliah Winter, Amelia Sniadach, Madison Sniadach, Logan Sniadach, Emma Harker and her fiancé, Andrew Ryckeghem, Max Way, Raelynn Vyncke, and Harper Vyncke; a great-great-granddaughter, Kingsley Ryckeghem; as well as her brothers, Robert (Darla) Engh and Richard Engh; and nieces and nephews, David Engh, Jennifer (Mike) Voith, Rodney (Denise) Engh and Randy (Jackie) Engh. Doris was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband, and her sister-in-law, Barb Engh.
