Doris M. Johansen, 98, of Milan, passed away Saturday, October 22, 2022. Private graveside services will be at Rock Island Memorial Park Cemetery. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Milan is assisting with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be to the Milan Christian Food Pantry.
Doris was born April 11, 1924, in Keithsburg, Illinois, a daughter of H.B. "Shorty" and Vera (Smith) Hawks. She married Wesley "Wes" Johansen on September 2, 1944, in Milan. He preceded her in death on October 8, 1983. Doris was a member of the Danish Sisterhood Lodge #3 and the Preemption United Methodist Church. She retired as manager of Fannie May Candy, Moline in 2004 and was former tax assessor and election judge in Bowling Township. Doris proudly lived on the Coyne Center Road for 83 consecutive years. She enjoyed cooking and baking and will be remembered for her Danish sweet rolls. Doris also enjoyed bird watching. She had a special talent of caring for flowers and plants. Above all, Doris loved spending time with her family.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Judy Johansen, Milan; daughter, Judy (Mark) Winters, Milan; grandchildren, Erik (Megan) Johansen, Ben (Sarah) Johansen, Sarah (Matt) Ely, Dan (Katy) Winters, Matt Johansen, and Rebekah (Mark) Ahrens; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters, Joy Bleuer, Milan, and Judy Williamson; Rock Island; special "adopted" son, Roger Diehl, Milan; and several nieces and nephews.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wes; son, James "Jim" Johansen and his two infant daughters; son-in-law, Mark Winters; sister, Jean; and 3 brothers-in-law.
The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to Doris' twin sisters, Joy and Judy, and Compassus caregivers for the wonderful care given to Doris which granted her wish to remain in her home until her death.
