Doris E. Johnston, 88, of Rock Island, died Monday, Feb. 20, 2017 at her home.

Funeral services are 6 pm Thursday at St. John's Lutheran Church, Rock Island.  Visitation is 4 pm until service time Thursday at the church.  Burial will be 11 am Friday at Chippiannock Cemetery, Rock Island.  Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island is assisting the family.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church or to the Maui Academy of Performing Arts (MAPA).

Doris Elaine Lauber was born Apr. 9, 1928 in Rock Island, the daughter of Henry P. and Marie Frances Lauber.  She married Clayton Johnston on Aug. 24, 1947 at St. John's Lutheran Church.  He died Oct. 2, 2006.

Doris graduated from Rock Island High School in 1946. She retired from Augustana College in 1993, where she served as assistant to the president for 28 years.

She was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Rock Island, where she served on the Altar Guild.  Doris was also a member of VIP - Augustana Retired Secretaries, Augustana Endowment Society, Friends of Trinity Hospital, life member of PTA and past president of PEO Sisterhood Chapter JI.

Survivors include her children, Cynthia "Cindy" Teague, East Moline, David C. (Sally) Johnston, Maui, Hawaii, and Thomas P. Johnston, Rock Island; grandchildren, Kevin Teague, Neysa Teague, Sarah (Justin) Duda, Anneka Johnston and Nathan Johnston; and great grandchildren, Spencer and Zachary Duda.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son-in-law, Don Teague; and sisters, Santa and Pauline.
