IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Doris
Thomas
November 27, 1930 – August 11, 2021
Doris Thomas, of Rock Island, passed away peacefully at the age of 90 on August 11, 2021 at UnityPoint in Rock Island. She's had a good ride. Services for Mrs. Thomas will be 12 pm, Saturday at the Knox Chapel of Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 2106 7th Avenue, Rock Island. Visitation will be Saturday from 10 am until the time of the service at the Chapel. Burial will be in Rock Island Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children.
Doris was born on November 27, 1930 in Chicago, IL. As a young child she contracted a devastating illness and spent a year at Shriners Hospital in Chicago. She never let the physical effects of that illness limit or define her in any way, and the strength and determination that she displayed then continued throughout her life.
Doris married Wilbur R. Thomas, the love her life, on August 17, 1950. He preceded her in death on April 10, 1998. Her family grew to include five children, twelve grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. She was clearly the matriarch of this large and loving clan.
Doris was always generous with her time and resources. She was a lifelong volunteer from PTA when her children were young to King's Daughters, helping with elections, and later to Trinity hospital. She was always up for an adventure and traveled extensively with her husband and later her children. In her later years her interests and activities became quieter and closer to home. She continued to enjoy spending time on her deck, having lunch at Pagalo's and enjoying Lawrence Welk with her longtime companion, Charles Buller.
Survivors include her children, Larry Thomas, Sandra (Ken) Keller, Janet Lampasona, and Patricia (Jim) Carlson; grandchildren, Blake (Barbie) Thomas, Tanya (Steve) Briix, Brandon (Katie) Thomas, Kacie Keller, Angela (Josh) Suman, Tony (Diane) Lampasona, Nick and Vito Lampasona, Jeff (Stacey) Carlson, Mike (Kate) Carlson, and Steve (Lisa) Carlson; and nineteen great grandchildren ranging in age from sixteen to three.
Doris was preceded in death by her daughter, Karen; her husband, Bill; son- in- law, Tony Lampasona; grandson, Adrian Keller; and brother, Donald Koskiewicz.
