Dorothy Elizabeth Hotle, 94, of Rock Island, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, September 29, 2017 at Silver Cross Pavilion at Friendship Manor, Rock Island. Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, November 11, 2017 at Riverside United Methodist Church, 712 16th St., Moline. Visitation will follow services at church. A private family burial will take place at Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Memorials may be made to a charity of your choice.
Dorothy was born in Bureau County, Illinois on September 14, 1923, a daughter of George and Leona Kerr Barger. She married William "Bill" Hotle on November 29, 1946 at Riverside United Methodist Church, formerly known as First Methodist Church, Moline. Bill preceded Dorothy in death on February 6, 2014.
Dorothy held several different jobs throughout her life. During World War II, she was one of many women who worked on the Case assembly line to help with war time efforts. Later she worked at Rock Island City Hall, Trinity Anglican Church, formerly known as Trinity Episcopal Church in Rock Island, Rock Island Savings and Loan and lastly for Dr. J.R. Lee.
Dorothy was a member of Riverside United Methodist Church, Moline, King's Daughters and the PEO Sisterhood. She enjoyed cooking, knitting, sewing and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She will be remembered by her legacy of love, generosity and kindness.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children (and spouses); Bob(Sandy) Hotle, Rock Island and Peggy (Jack) Gromoll, Moline; grandchildren, Zach (Irit) Hotle, Tim (Jocelyn) Hotle, Corey (Laura) Hotle, Joseph Hotle and Kate Hotle; great-grandchildren, Alexis, Alijah, Audrey, Evan, Lucas and Olivia; and sister, Marilyn Douglas, North Aurora, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, infant son and brother, James "Jim" Barger.
