Obituary

Dorothy I. Rursch, 93, of Moline, died Thursday, April 3, 2014 at her home.Funeral services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island. Burial is at Memorial Park Cemetery, Rock Island. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to a favorite charity.

Dorothy I. Bishop was born July 25, 1920 in Andalusia, a daughter of Clarence and Hazel Elliott Bishop. She married Carrol H. Rursch on Sept. 27, 1941 in Kahoka, Mo. They were married for 45 years, then divorced but always remained friends. He preceded her in death in 2002.

She graduated from Augustana College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1941 and later received a Master's degree from the University of Illinois. She taught second grade in the East Moline School District for 60 years, retiring when she was 80 years old. June 5, 2002 was proclaimed The Dorothy Rursch Day in Illinois for her years of dedication.

Dorothy was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and Calvary Lutheran Church, Moline. She enjoyed traveling, cleaning (you could eat off of her garage floor) and spending time with her family. Dorothy never had a bad word to say about anyone. She lived her life for her family.

Survivors include her daughters and son-in-law, Jane and Terry Grantz, Moline and Sue Berry, Rock Island; grandchildren, Lucy and Jonathan Berry, Rock Island; sisters, Dee (Dr. Loren) Horton, La Grange Park, Ill. and Peggy (Charles) Pierce, Moline; a brother, Dr. Joseph (Joyce) Bishop, Rock Island; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; and son-in-law, Michael Berry.
