Dorothy "Jean" Hawkins, 94, of Rock Island, died Friday, September 27, 2024 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, Iowa.  A funeral service will be at 11 am Tuesday, October 1, 2024 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 3030 7th Avenue, Rock Island.  Visitation will be from 9-11 am Tuesday, October 1, 2024 at the funeral home.  Burial will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery, Rock Island.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in care of Edgewood Baptist Church, Rock Island.

Jean was born in Carthage, Tennessee on October 28, 1929, a daughter of Grover "Cleveland" and Sadie Belle Winfree Wright.  She married Charles L. Hawkins in March of 1950 in Red Boiling Springs, Tennessee.  He preceded her in death on February 16, 2015.

Jean was a proud homemaker who loved having family over and cooking and preparing meals.

After her children were grown, Jean earned her associate's degree from Black Hawk College, Moline.  She passionately enjoyed being a teacher's aid at Audubon Elementary School in Rock Island for 10 plus years.

She was a member of Edgewood Baptist Church, Rock Island.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Bryan (Teresa) Hawkins, Moline, IL Russell "Kim" Hawkins, Milan, IL and Jill (Bruce) Bryan, Boilingbrook, IL; six grandchildren; and seventeen great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, twin sister, June Smith, sisters, Agnes Pettros and Ruth Gatlin, brothers, Ben and Hugh Wright and daughter-in-law, Susan Hawkins.
