Drake R. DeKeyrel, 14 of Illinois City, died Wednesday Dec. 24, 2014 near his home, following a tragic accident.
Funeral services are 10 a.m. Monday at Rockridge High School, Edgington. Burial is at the Illinois City Cemetery. Visitation is 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Milan. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Drake R. DeKeyrel Fund at Blackhawk State Bank for a memorial to be established at Rockridge High School.
Drake Richard DeKeyrel was born on April 10, 2000 in Rock Island, a son of Dana R. and Angela K. Skoglund DeKeyrel. He was a freshman at Rockridge High School, where he was a three sport athlete participating in football, wrestling and baseball. He also played baseball with the Muscatine Cardinals baseball team.
Drake was a loving, affectionate young man, who was anxious to know you and always quick with a hug. He enjoyed skiing, boogie boarding, and skim boarding and fishing in Florida. Drake also loved the outdoors where he could be found in the woods at his fort with the wolf pack, playing with his airsoft and paintball guns or swimming in the family's pool.
Those left to cherish his memory include his parents, Dana and Angie; sister, Alexis, brother, Douglas, and special little sister for whom Drake was a guardian angel, Alayna; grandparents, Dennis and Diana Bush, Taylor Ridge, and Richard and Billie DeKeyrel, Illinois City; great-grandmothers, Shirley Bush, Taylor Ridge, Betty "MiMi" Burns, Moline, Alice Madison, Andalusia, and Lucille DeKeyrel, Illinois City; aunts and uncles, Annette and Mike Epperly, Sherrard, Darrin and Michele Dekeyrel, Muscatine, and Danette and Gary Kelting, Walcott; and cousins, Audrey and Will Epperly, Lindsay and Collin Kelting, Kehlee, Darrin, Keagan, Devin, and Katy DeKeyrel; and many other loving family members and friends.
