Duaine D. Carlson, 86, of Milan, passed away on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at his home.  Funeral services will be 1 p.m Tuesday at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 201 4th Ave. E., Milan.  Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.  Burial will be in Reynolds Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, Milan.

Duaine was born on October 4, 1931 in Milan, a son of John and Margaret (Carothers) Carlson.  He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He married Marie E. Rathbun on May 22, 1955 at the Milan Presbyterian Church.  She passed away on October 15, 2016.  Duaine worked as a Reporter at the Argus/Dispatch, where he was the Mercer Co. Bureau Chief for many years.  He also worked at the East Moline Correctional Center as a Counselor and Iowa/Illinois Gas and Electric as a customer service dispatcher.  Duaine earned his Associate's Degree in Counseling from Black Hawk College.  He was very proud of his military service and school accomplishments.

Duaine was a former member of Taylor Ridge Methodist Church, where he served as the church organist for many years.  Currently, he was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Milan and the Reynolds American Legion Post #1166.  Duaine was a humble man who greatly enjoyed mowing excessively in his earlier years, reading history books and writing.

Duaine is survived by his son, David; mother, Margaret Danielson; brother, Gareld (Judy) Danielson and numerous nieces, nephews, other loving family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie; daughter, Kathy; father, John Carlson; step father, James Danielson and sister, Beverly (Russell) Allers
