Obituary

Dwaine R. “DW” MacDonald, lovingly known to many as “Papa,” passed away on June 24, 2026, at UnityPoint Health-Trinity, Rock Island. He was 92 years old.

Dwaine was born on May 13, 1934, in Potosi, Wisconsin, to Vivian and Dorena MacDonald. Throughout his life, he wore many hats and worked many different jobs, but the role he treasured most was being a grandfather.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Jolene MacDonald; his children, Mark MacDonald, Mike (Kim) MacDonald, Tammy (Jeff) McManus, and Kelly (Meridith) Bivens; 13 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren with 2 more on the way. He also leaves behind many extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.

Dwaine never met a stranger. Whether you knew him for five minutes or fifty years, he had a way of making you feel like an old friend. He was a gifted storyteller who could turn any conversation into a memorable tale and leave everyone around him smiling. He had a legendary sense of humor and was known for his inappropriate jokes, quick wit, and ability to make people laugh when they least expected it.

A cowboy until his last breath, Dwaine found joy in the simple things that made life meaningful. He spent much of his life under the hood of a car, attending car shows, and sharing his passion for automobiles with others. His love of cars extended beyond the garage and show field to the racetrack, where he enjoyed the thrill, competition, and excitement of racing. When he wasn't working on cars, he could often be found hunting, fishing, or spending time outdoors.

He had a special love for eagles, which reflected the freedom, strength, and independence that defined his spirit.

Above all else, Dwaine loved his family. Nothing brought him greater happiness than spending time with his children, grandchildren, and especially his great-grandchildren. The memories he created, the lessons he shared, the stories he told, and the love he gave so freely will continue to live on through each of them. In accordance with his wishes, Dwaine will be cremated.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Dwaine's life at “One Last Car Show” at his home (15912 13th Street, Milan, Illinois) on Wednesday July 1, 2026, starting at 10 a.m.

Though our hearts are broken, we take comfort in knowing that his stories, laughter, and love will continue to ride with us wherever the road may lead. His legacy lives on in the family he cherished and the countless lives he touched along the way.
