Doctor Earl H. Clark, 95, long time resident of Rock Island/Moline, died Monday, April 11, 2016 in Wichita, Kansas at home with his family. Memorial services will be 10 am Saturday, April 23, at Broadway Presbyterian Church, Rock Island. Private inurnment will be at Chippiannock Cemetery, Rock Island. The family will greet friends in the Great Hall of the church before and after the service.
Dr. Clark was born December 21, 1920 in Beloit, Kansas, the only child of Earl Howard and Bess Prose Clark. He spent his childhood in Hoisington, Kansas and received his undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Kansas. During WWII, he served as a LT (j. g.) in the Naval Reserve and a medical officer with the 1st Marine Division in North China.
He married Janet Goodjohn of Leavenworth, Kansas December 20, 1947. They were married 56 years before she passed away October 6, 2004.
Following completion of his medical residency in 1951, he joined Dr. John P. Burgess in the practice of pediatrics in Rock Island. He was later joined by Dr. Earl M. Stockdale with whom he practiced for 30 years. They were joined by Dr. Christopher Moen and Dr. Thomas Herr, current senior members of Pediatric Group Associates. Dr. Clark was certified by the American board of Pediatrics and was a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics. He was a member of the American Medical Association, the Illinois State Medical Association, and was a member and past president of the Rock Island County Medical Association. His dedication to the practice of medicine here was honored when he was chosen King of the Mardi Gras in 1983. He retired from pediatric practice January 1, 1987.
Dr. Clark and his late wife, Janet, had been members of Broadway Presbyterian Church for over 50 years. He served there as a deacon and elder. Dr. Clark enjoyed time spent with his friends and family as well as traveling, gardening, golf, reading, and dining. During his lengthy retirement his grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought much pleasure to him.
He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law John and Kathleen Clark of Pasadena, California; Howard and Jane Clark, Wichita, Kansas; and his daughter and son-in-law Ann and Timothy Patton, Wichita, Kansas; grandchildren John (Hemma) Clark, Mary (Ben) Dunlap, Annie (Matthew) Arnett, David Clark, Lucy Clark, Dr. Simon (Grace) Patton, Mary (Andrew) Lesh, Elizabeth (Francis) Defilippis, Andrew (Becca) Patton, and Paul Patton; 15 great-grandchildren; his nephew P. Bartlett (Kathryn) Wu and great-nephew Peter B. Wu.
Wheelan - Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorials may be made to Broadway Presbyterian Church or a charity of the donor's choice.
