Edna J. Maid-Tyson, 55, of Davenport, passed away Wednesday April 16, 2025 at her home surrounded by her family.
Funeral services will be 12:00 PM Thursday April 24, 2025 at Peoples Missionary Baptist Church, Rock Island. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM to service time at church. Additional services will be in Mississippi. Details to come. Burial will be in St. Luke Primitive Baptist Cemetery, Porterville, MS.
Edna was born on October 3, 1969 in Davenport, Iowa, the daughter of Rufus James and Annie B. (Maid) Friday. She was a graduate of Davenport Central High School. Edna married Warren Tyson on September 7, 2019 in Peoples Missionary Baptist Church, Rock Island. She had been employed by the Scott County YMCA as a Pre-K teacher at the Early Learning Center for 16 years. She worked in child care for over 30 years and made a huge impact on the lives of many children.
Edna was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, who loved shopping, spending time with family, traveling to Mississippi to visit family members and most of all attending church. She was a devoted member of People's Missionary Baptist Church.
Edna will be remembered for her generous heart and genuine personality. She would light up any room that she walked in. Edna was the life of the party. She met no strangers.
Survivors include her husband, Warren; children, Arsenio, Centira, Warren Jr. and Nathan; God Children, Steven Jr., Alizea, and Jaylen; grandchildren, Arrin, Amahd, Zion, Adonis, Rose and Jacori; siblings, Alberta, Robert, James, Coretta, Denise, Shawn Ray, Elizabeth and Keith; special nephew, Rodney Jr.; and a large family and many close friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Rufus and Annie, grandparents Alberta (Whitsett) and Luke Brown, Joe and Willie Mae (Parks) Sanders.
