Edward was born on May 22, 1924 in Allen's Grove Twp., IA., the son of Nellie and William Elliott. He resided in Rock Island a majority of his life and was a graduate of Rock Island Senior High School. Ed was a United States Army Veteran having achieved the rank of Sgt., while serving during World War II. He received 3 Overseas Service Bars, American Campaign Medal, European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with four Bronze Battle Stars, Good Conduct Medal, Distinguished Unit Badge, and a World War II Victory Medal, as well as a letter of thanks from President Harry S. Truman. Even so, he rarely talked about his years of service until quite late in his life. We do know he was in the Battle of the Bulge. Ed married Eileen Wagner on October 2, 1948. He was a mail carrier in Rock Island, for many years, retiring on disability due to the loss of his eyesight. For many years, Ed and Eileen enjoyed their weekends together at their cottage on the Mississippi River and spent their winters in Florida. Ed was an avid Chicago Cubs fan, he also enjoyed listening to baseball and football games, as well as audio books.
Left to cherish his memory are his sister, Dorothy Coulson and many loving nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Eileen; parents, William and Nellie; sister, Ellen Hockett and brother, James Elliott.
