Obituary

Edward D. Glidewell Sr., 84, of Taylor Ridge, passed away on Sunday, April 26, 2015, at Genesis Medical Center, Aledo. Services for Mr. Glidewell will be 11 a.m. Friday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Milan. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island, where military honors will be conducted. Memorials may be made to the QC Animal Welfare Center, Milan. Edward was born on Jan. 22, 1931, in Milan, Mo., a son of John and Nora Montgomery Glidewell. He married Iris Sterling on June 24, 1956 in Milan, Mo. Ed was co-owner of Ed and Jim's Auto Body Shop in Milan for many years. He owned and operated the shop with his dear friend, Jim Galusha. During his lunch hour, you could often find him treating his family and friends to a meal at the Maid-Rite in Milan. He retired from the auto body business in 2012. In his free time you could find him tinkering with his tractors, motorcycles and classic cars. He restored several award winning cars during his time in the auto business. Ed also enjoyed tractor pulls, antique tractors, and all things electronic. He loved video taping family events and always seemed to have his camera on hand. He was a people person and enjoyed sharing his stories with family and friends. Ed also loved his dogs and they were always by his side waiting for their next cookie. Ed was a member of the Milan American Legion and the Korean War Veterans Association. He was a USMC veteran. Survivors include his children, Julie Beasley, Davenport, Pamela (John) Klossing, Reynolds, and Edward Glidewell Jr., Milan; granddaughters, Johnna (Adam) Kerres, Catherine (Adam) McKinley, Jacqueline Klossing and Shannon Beasley; a brother, John (Linda) Glidewell, Coyne Center; several nieces and nephews; and his horse, "Dusty." Ed was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Iris; and several brothers and sisters. The family would like to thank Genesis Medical Center, Aledo, and the doctors, nurses and staff for the care and compason they showed Ed. Angels are on Earth not just in heaven.
