Edward L. Handley, Jr., 71, of Milan, passed away on Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at Unity Point Health-Trinity, Rock Island. Services for Mr. Handley will be 10 am, Tuesday at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home & Crematory, Milan. Visitation will be Monday from 4 pm to 8pm, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Rock Island Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to family for a memorial fund to be established later.

Ed was born on June 13, 1945 in Rock Island, a son of Edward L. Handley Sr. and Florence Crosby Handley. He married Judith Agy on July 10, 1965 in Rock Island. Mr. Handley was an iron worker for Design Build, Davenport. He retired after 34 years of service. Ed had served as Fire Chief for the Blackhawk Fire Protection District. He was currently serving as Assistant Fire Chief for the Coyne Center Fire Protection District.  Mr. Handley was an active volunteer with Little League Baseball. He served as the District 5 Little League Administrator and had been selected to be an umpire in the 1986 Little League Baseball World Series. He had also been a football official. He mentored many young people through baseball and fire fighting. He touched and inspired many lives

Survivors include his wife, Judy; children, Ron Handley, Milan, Denise Clark, Springfield, MO., Cathy Handley, Springdale, AR., and Michael (Jessica) Handley, Chesapeake, VA.; grandchildren, Kirsten, Charissa, Tiffany, Emerald, Neko, Adaleigh, Katonna, Solomon, Christa and Nathaniel; a great granddaughter, Kiyah; brothers, Leonard (Cyndi) Rogers, AR., Kenneth Handley, Milan and Ted (Mickee) Handley, Rock Island.
