Edward C. Johnson Jr., 73, of Rock Island passed away on Monday, October 17, 2022 at UnityPoint Health Trinity, Rock Island.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, October 21, 2022, at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Chippiannock Cemetery, Rock Island. Memorials may be made in care of Church Of Peace, United Church of Christ, Rock Island.

Ed was born on March 6, 1949 in Rock Island, the son of Edward C. Sr. and Laura (Fues) Johnson. He married Susan Scharer on September 11, 1971 in Rock Island. He worked for the United States Postal Service for 42 years, retiring in 2011. Later Mr. Johnson worked at Church Of Peace in various capacities until October 2021

Ed was a faithful member of the Church of Peace, United Church of Christ in Rock Island, where he served as superintendent of Sunday school, served on the church council and volunteered with the church food pantry. He also served as president of the Rock Island Music Association for many years. He thoroughly enjoyed sports and was a big supporter/fan of the Chicago Bears, Chicago Cubs, University of Illinois, and Rock Island High School.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Susan; sons, Brian Johnson (Juan Mendoza), Sioux Falls, SD, and Kevin Johnson, Rock Island; granddaughters, Ashley and Kaylee; a sister, Beverly Johnson, Rock Island; and several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and great nephews; and Mariah Johnson.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
