April 20, 1937 – September 11, 2015
Edward M. Praet, 78, of Milan, the son of the late Achiel and Henrietta (Sutterman) Praet, husband of Kay (Nice) Praet, passed away September 11 ,2015 at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House. He graduated from Rock Island high school in 1955. Edward served his apprenticeships, taught apprenticeship classes, served on the Executive Board, was a business agent and business manager for his beloved Sheet Metal Local #91.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM on Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Milan. Visitation will be from 4 pm to 7 pm on Monday, September 14, 2015 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island. Memorials may be made to In Touch Adult Daycare, Moline or Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.
He was a volunteer at the John Deere Classic, served on the Bowling Township Board, and was active in the Democratic Party. Ed served in the United States Air Force. He was a member of St. Ambrose Church in Milan. In his retirement years he enjoyed painting and golfing.
Surviving are his wife, Kay Praet; son and partner, Matt Praet and Art Halpern, grandson, Asa Halpern-Praet; son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Jennifer Praet, grandchildren, Lauryn, Jackson, Isabella, and Ava Praet; daughter, Ann Carothers, grandsons, Warren, Sam, and Connor Carothers; nephews and nieces, Jeff and Dottie Tubbs, Jim and Judy Tubbs, and Sue Tubbs; brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws, Ned R. and Marry Ellen Nice, Peggy Neathammer, Jo Ann Struss, and Elsie Nice.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Eddy Tubbs; brother-in-laws and sister-in-law, Bob and Shirley Nice, Gene Nice, Rollin Struss and Gene Neathammer; and father and mother-in-law, Gus and Darlene Nice.
Thank you to all who took care of Ed during his battle with dementia, including In Touch Adult Day Care and Summit Unit at Finley Hospital. May he rest in peace.
