Obituary

Eileen K. Granum, 100, a sweet and gentle soul passed away Thursday, April 3, 2014 at Avonlea Cottage, Milan, her home since 2006. Per her request, there will be no visitation or funeral service. A private "goodbye" will be held for the immediate family. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island is assisting the family.Eileen was born in Deering, N.D. on March 4, 1914. She married the love of her life Carl and they enjoyed 45 years together. After Carl died in 1986, Eileen moved to an apartment near her church. A person of great faith, she could be seen crossing the street each morning to begin her day by celebrating Mass at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island. She sang in the church choir and enjoyed bible study. She was a member of Third Order of Franciscans and the Peoria Diocese Council of Catholic Women.

Through the years Eileen enjoyed camping trips in Wisconsin, hiking, square-dancing, playing cards and most of all reading.

Those left to remember the love and kindness they shared and feel the sadness of losing Eileen are her daughter, Maureen; granddaughter and husband, Shellee Showalter & Evan Branson; great-granddaughter, Sydney; and dear friend, Betty Pfanensteil.

Eileen's family appreciates the kindness extended by her caregivers and nurses at Avonlea Cottage and Genesis Hospice. Also, a special thank you to those individuals that brightened Eileen's last months and shared such love & extreme devotion.

Those wishing to remember Eileen and celebrate her life may make a donation to the Rock Island Public Library, the Quad City Animal Welfare Center in Milan or simply greet someone today with a friendly smile & a heartfelt "thank you".

Peace be with you, Eileen

God now has another "angel"

A Soft Goodbye

When the light begins to fade

When the time has come to fly

I must go now with the wind

And find the land that faith will bring
