Eileen Mae Black, 91, of Rock Island, died on Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at Hope Creek Care Center, East Moline.  Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island.  Visitation will be Sunday from 2-5 p.m. at the funeral home.  Burial will be at Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island.  In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Hope Creek Care Center (Memory Care/Activities) or the Alzheimer's Association.

Eileen was born in Silvis on July 1, 1926 to Emory and Ethel Brighton Smith. She graduated from United Township High School in 1944 and married William Francis Black on June 30, 1946.

Eileen was a stay-at-home mom for many years, raising her 8 children. She then went on to work at Bituminous Insurance Company. In retirement, she enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family and dear friends Bob & Jan Peppmeyer, Annette Wild, and her niece Pat Koch.

The last few years of her life were spent at Hope Creek Care Center, East Moline, IL, where she enjoyed painting, Bingo, and many other activities. Our family would like to thank the entire Hope Creek staff for taking such wonderful care of her. We would also like to thank the hospice staff, especially Andrea, for their care and support these last few months.

Survivors include her children: Rick Black, North Fort Myers, FL; Sandi Fitzpatrick (Ed), Mesa, AZ; Sharon Shaner (Pat), Moline, IL; Ron Black (Kathy), Fairfax, VA; Russ Black (Jean), Clinton, IA; Shelli Norris (Bruce) Rock Island, IL; Staci Whitcomb (Steve), Taylor Ridge, IL; 20 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren.

She was proceeded in death by her husband, William Francis Black (1995); son, Robert William Black (2012); and her parents and sisters, Gladys, Alta, Opal and Eva.
