Elaine R. Matherly, 93, of Milan, passed away on Monday, January 2, 2017 at UnityPoint Health-Trinity, Rock Island. Services for Mrs. Matherly will be 10 am, Friday at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Milan, where she was a charter member. Visitation will be Thursday from 4 to 7 pm at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Milan. Burial will be in the Rose Lawn Memorial Estates, Moline. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society or to a favorite charity.

Elaine was born on December 26, 1923 in Donahue, Iowa, the daughter of  Eldie and Irene (Oehrlein) Whisler. She married Harold T. Matherly on March 21, 1954 in Rock Island. He preceded her in death on May 25, 2007. She worked for many years as an Avon salesperson retiring in October, 2016. Elaine was a member of the Rock Island County Home Extension and the Big Island Birthday Club.  She was Cub Scout den mother, election judge and active in PTA.  She enjoyed playing cards, knitting and crocheting.

Survivors include sons and daughter in law, Martin (Kathy) Matherly, Rock Island and Kurt Matherly, Milan; two grandsons; two step grandchildren; a great grandson, a great granddaughter and six step great grandchildren;  Sisters Mildred Mueller, Donahue, IA and Marcella Grau, DeWitt, IA.  She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and daughter in law, Julie Matherly.
