Elaine M. Jawoisz, 93, of Rock Island, passed away Saturday, February 22, 2025, at Allure of the Quad Cities, Moline.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 27, 2025, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Rock Island. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island, with the Recitation of the Rosary at 3:30 p.m. Burial will be in the Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Memorials may be made to St. Mary Catholic Church, Rock Island.
Elaine was born April 16, 1931, in Rock Island, Illinois, to John and Emma (DeCleene) Scheel. She graduated from St. Joseph Catholic School in 1948. Elaine married Edward Jawoisz on August 12, 1950, in Rock Island. He preceded her in death on October 10, 2021. Elaine worked as a medical receptionist for 18 years. She was a long-time member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Rock Island, where she was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society and sang in the choir for over 50 years.
Elaine enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and crossword puzzles. She also enjoyed playing cards with friends and was a member of the St. Joseph Card Club. In the winter, Elaine and Edward were snowbirds in Arizona. Above all, Elaine loved spending time with her family.
Those left to cherish Elaine's memory include her daughters, Jeri (John) Lauer, and Joni (Jerry) Gates; grandchildren, Tim (Nancy) Lauer, Laura (Zach) Vroman, Emily Jawoisz, Marcus Hawkins, and Sara Hawkins; great-grandchildren, Averi, Evan, Max, Natalie, and Imara (recently born on February 2, 2025); son-in-law, Corey Rivett; and special friends, King Au and Gail Warren.
Elaine was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughters, Julie Jawoisz and Jody Rivett; son, John E. Jawoisz; and siblings, Kenneth Scheel and Dorothy Yotts.
Elaine's family would like to thank the staff at Park Vista in East Moline for the care given to Elaine.
