Elda Mier, 86, of Illinois City passed away on Monday, November 4, 2024 at Avonlea Cottage, Milan.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, November 11, 2024 at Illinois City United Methodist Church. Private inurnment will be in Illinois City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left in care of the Illinois City United Methodist Church. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Milan is assisting the family.

Elda was born on June 11, 1938 in Muscatine, Iowa, the daughter of William and Lois (Vanatta) Frieberg. She married Larry Mier on May 3, 1959 in Illinois City and he preceded her in death on October 29, 2019. Elda was a homemaker for several years and later worked for the Post Office in Illinois City.

Elda's hobbies included teaching ceramics, making barn quilts, selling eggs, playing cards with friends, helping with 4H, traveling and helping coordinate events in Illinois City. She volunteered as an election board judge and served on the Illinois City Cemetery Board for many years. Elda was an active member of the Illinois City United Methodist Church, where she played organ and planned various dinners and events. She was also very active on the family farm.

Those left to cherish Elda's memory include her sons, Don Mier and John (Diana) Mier; daughter in law, Lori Mier; grandchildren, Jason (Katie) Mier, Jared Mier, Megan (Dakota) DeKeyrel and Jacob Mier; and great-grandchildren, Ryken, Xavier, Acelynn, Wyatt and Weston.

Elda was preceded in death by her husband; parents; son, Rick Mier; and granddaughter, Erin Mier.
