Elizabeth "Libby" A. Hofsas, 86, Rock Island, IL passed away on Wednesday, July 12, 2023, at Friendship Manor under the care of Hospice. Private interment will take place at the Andover Cemetery at a later date. Memorials preferred to River Bend Food Bank or Lutheran World Relief.

Libby was born on August 6, 1936, to Percy and Loretta (Robertson) Hofsas in Decatur, IL. After graduating high school, she attended Illinois Wesleyan University where she was a member of the Sigma Alpha Iota women's music fraternity. Libby earned a bachelor's degree in music education and taught in Armstrong, IL, for one year. She then obtained her master's degree in library science at the University of Illinois. She worked there and at the University of California San Diego before starting her tenure at Yale University. After serving as a serials librarian there for over 30 years, Libby retired from Yale and then moved to the Quad Cities in 2003.

Libby was a very active member of the Dunbar United Church of Christ in Connecticut and then First Lutheran Church in Rock Island.

Libby is survived by her niece, Mary (Charles Dix) Brodd; nephews, Anders (Beth) Brodd and Philip (Sarah) Brodd; and grand nieces and nephews, Katherine and Karl Dix, Ethan and Ellen Brodd, and Jackson, Zoey, and Logan Brodd.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister and brother-in-law, Sarah (Jon) Brodd; and brother, John Hofsas.

Libby's family would like to thank the staff at Friendship Manor and Silver Cross Nursing Center for their care in her final years.
