Elizabeth J. "Betty" Niswander, 87, formerly of Milan, passed away Sunday, March 23, 2014 at the Bettendorf Health Care Center, Bettendorf. Memorial services for Betty will be 1:30 pm, Thursday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 201 E. 4th Avenue, Milan. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association.Betty was born on January 23, 1927 in Erie, Illinois, a daughter of Artemas Baxter and Mabel Mickle Baxter. She married Jack Firth on November 3, 1949 in Rock Island. He preceded her in death. Betty later married Arthur J. "Jim" Niswander on December 29, 1967 in Milan. Mrs. Niswander worked in the administration dept. at Comfort Harbor Home, Milan. In her earlier years enjoyed golfing and fishing.

Survivors include her husband, Jim, Bettendorf; a daughter and son in law, Jackie and John Burns, Bettendorf; grandchildren, Shanna Smith and Karly Burns; great grandchildren, Jalen, Cameron and Trey.
